MAY 2, 2026: LAND OF HOPE AND DREAMS

Bruce Springsteen tackles Trump, weaves joy and resistance at Atlanta show,” read the headline in The Atlanta Journal Constitution,” and they nailed it.  Accompanied by the stalwart regulars of the E Street Band, a horn section, a trio of back up singers, and the virtuosic Tom Morello, Springsteen delivered what by all accounts was his customary high energy three hour show, playing thirty some songs and several bouts of extended oratory about Trump and the state of the nation.  There was nothing to complain about and much to be excited about (Badlands and Born to Run, sung at high volume by all 15,000 or so fans on hand, was particularly thrilling), but one couldn’t help but notice that upon exiting the arena, one felt a little like one does after leaving an all you can eat buffet at a German restaurant (“Not another helping of saetzle, please,I simply couldn’t! Oh no, not another wurst–I’ll burst!”) Sometimes too much is enough.  But who’s complaining? Top: Opening. Middle: Bruce and Steve Van Zandt, Bruce with Morello. Bottom: Into the crowd for 10th Avenue Freeze Out; Ginny sings back up.
