Congratulations to my friend and client David Berg on the publication of his excellent new memoir Run, Brother, Run. The book is quite amazing–a funny, tender, perceptive, and angry family memoir about his dysfunctional upbringing, focusing especially on David’s beloved older brother Alan, a smart, talented, funny sharpie with a streak of nobility. When Alan is murdered, however, the book turns into a tense courtroom drama, where Alan receives his justice, of a kind. David is a great storyteller with a rich voice that easily combines humor and erudition, and the chapters in which he deconstructs the trial are like watching a football game with John Madden; you not only see the game as it happened far better than you ever could, but you also see the game that might have been. Thanks to my agent David McCormick, who is also David Berg’s agent, I was able to consult on the manuscript and work with David in fleshing some things out. It was a great privilege to work with him, and I enjoyed myself immensely. The book is quite wonderful, and deserving of all the accolades it is receiving.
